Cold Forging Brass Fasteners
Cold forging is the primary manufacturing process for high-volume brass fasteners at RKIC Group. By forming brass at room temperature under high pressure, cold forging produces fasteners with superior mechanical properties, tight dimensional tolerances and excellent surface finish — all at lower cost than machining.
How It Works
Brass Rod Feeding
Precision-cut brass wire or rod is fed into the forging press at controlled lengths.
Die Forming
High-pressure dies shape the brass into the fastener form — bolt head, nut hex, screw head — in a single stroke.
Trimming & Piercing
Excess material is trimmed and holes are pierced where required (nuts, inserts).
Dimensional Inspection
Each batch undergoes dimensional inspection for head size, shank diameter and length.
Key Benefits
Enhanced Mechanical Properties
Cold working increases tensile strength and hardness by up to 30% versus machined equivalents.
Cost-Effective Production
High-speed forging produces thousands of parts per hour at lower cost than CNC machining.
Minimal Material Waste
Near-net-shape forming uses 95%+ of input material — no chips or swarf.
Consistent Quality
Die-controlled forming ensures identical dimensions across millions of parts.
Excellent Surface Finish
Forged surfaces have compressed grain structure — better fatigue resistance than machined surfaces.
High Production Volume
50,000+ units per day capacity across our press shop.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is cold forging and how does it differ from machining?
Cold forging forms metal at room temperature by pressing it into dies under high pressure. Unlike machining which removes material, forging displaces material — resulting in stronger parts with no material waste and faster cycle times.
What size brass fasteners can be cold forged?
RKIC Group cold forges brass fasteners from M3 to M20 in metric sizes. Larger sizes above M20 are produced by hot forging or CNC machining. Contact our technical team for specific size requirements.
Is cold forging suitable for custom fastener designs?
Yes. Custom dies can be produced for non-standard head shapes, special drive types and proprietary fastener designs. Tooling lead time is typically 3–4 weeks. Contact us for custom tooling enquiries.
